Russian Ag Ministry denies discussion of grain export quotas
MOSCOW, Feb 27 (PRIME) -- The Russian Agriculture Ministry is not discussing restrictions of grain exports, and media reports about distribution of quotas among exporters is incorrect, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, when business daily Vedomosti reported that the ministry had introduced unofficial quotas.
The ministry said that the grain exports forecast for a period from July 1, 2018 till June 30, 2019 stands 42 million tonnes.
“The Agriculture Ministry discusses fulfillment of this forecast among other issues at regular meetings with market participants,” the statement said.
“It currently sees no preconditions for its revision and is not discussing introduction of any restrictions on grain exports. The information that the Agriculture Ministry is distributing any quotas on grain supplies among exporters does not correspond to reality.”
One of the paper’s sources said that the quotas were distributed in accordance with the historical principle, with exports for October 2018 taken as the basis for calculation.
